We moved into a new condo recently and while we love the new place there wasn’t a nice, obvious place that the cat’s litter box could go. So instead I put my thinking cap on and came up with an alternative. Below are the photos of the chest I turned into a storage unit for the cat litter box. Well, to be honest it was not I who did the work. My parents were in town and because of the whole preggers situation, they offered to help!
Step 1 – Find a suitable enclosure for your litterbox. I bought ours for $25 off of craigslist, perhaps a little bulkier than what we need, but hey it was $25. Also, buy a cat door. It was slightly difficult to find one for our cats as one is a little pudgy.
Step 2 – Sand or prime the box. Chances are it won’t look like what you want the finished product to look like. In our case, we removed the handles and gave it a good sanding.
Step 3 – Cut a whole in the chest that will fit the cat door you bought
Step 4 – Paint the chest to your liking
Step 5 – Install the cat door
Step 6 – Enjoy!

What an awesome idea Erica. That nasty litter box often does pose as an eyesore. Hope you are enjoying your new condo.
